S\u00e3o realmente geniais na estupidez!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here\u2019s a map of all of the countries in the world that still use pounds as their primary unit of weight:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/typesetinthefuture.com\/postfiles\/alien\/mass_map.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"284\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And here&#8217;s a map of all of the countries that don&#8217;t:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/typesetinthefuture.com\/postfiles\/alien\/mass_map_metric.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"284\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s right \u2013 pounds are used by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Liberia\">Liberia<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Burma\">Myanmar<\/a>, and popular space-faring nation <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States\">The United States of America<\/a>. And by no-one else AT ALL.<\/p>\n<p>And here&#8217;s why you should care. <em><strong>In September 1999, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/\">NASA<\/a> lost its<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mars_Climate_Orbiter\">Mars Climate Orbiter<\/a> craft, ruining a mission that cost over 655 million dollars.\u00a0The reason for this loss? One part of the Orbiter calculated propulsion in the Imperial system of pound-seconds of thrust, whereas another part used the international standard metric system of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Newton-second\">newton-seconds<\/a> of thrust.<\/strong><\/em> This caused the Orbiter to gradually deviate from its intended trajectory, and disintegrate in the Mars atmosphere.
